Wabi-Sabi is a Japanese concept that honors the beauty found in imperfection, and this red blend from Mendocino is a charming example of an emerging California sensibility. Mostly Zinfandel, with co-starring roles from Carignane and Chardonnay, the winemakers also add in a bit of Pinot Noir, indeed arriving at something that would seem to be more than the sum of its parts. Medium-bodied while still light on its toes, this wine does well with a light chill, and is perfectly suited to the changing seasons, its restrained tannins and mild spicy character playing well with a number of cuisines.
