Founded in San Francisco by Korean-Americans Clara Lee and Eddo Kim, Queens Superette is the kind of neighborhood shop dreams are made of. Inspired by the “immigrant grocery stores” run by their parents and uncles, Queens offers an array of locally-sourced, house-produced banchan, Korean grab-n-go classics like bulgogi, buckwheat noodles, and kimchi. Their gochujang - a fiery paste made from fermented chilis and jujubes - is the best we’ve tasted, made in small batches with peppers grown in California. An essential component of bibimbap, gochujang also makes a killer marinade, and will add a spicy, earthy undertone to soups, stews, and sauces.
