Indication Géographique Protégée (IGP) means a delineated area which designates a particular terroir style, similar to Italy's Denominazione di Origine Protetta, or DOP. IGP Agenais was established in 2011 to capture the typicity of the wines from the Lot-et-Garonne area of Southwest France. Here in the "Sud Ouest," in a landscape speckled with Gothic and Romanesque architecture and in soils ranging from sandy riverbed to limestone-rich hills, Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc grow wild and indigenous (Cabernet Sauvignon is a 17th century hybrid of the two). This rosé, from vigneron Christophe Avi, is made from his younger, biodynamically-farmed Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon vines. It offers nuanced notes of minerally orange blossom, wet stone, lime leaf, and plenty of grip.
